Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Channel Flows by the Rational LES Model

چکیده
The rational large eddy simulation (RLES) model is applied to turbulent channel flows. This approximate deconvolution model is based on a rational (subdiagonal Padé) approximation of the Fourier transform of the Gaussian filter and is proposed as an alternative to the gradient (also known as the nonlinear or tensor-diffusivity) model. We used a spectral element code to perform large eddy simulations of incompressible channel flows at Reynolds numbers based on the friction velocity and the channel halfwidth Reτ = 180 and Reτ = 395. We compared the RLES model with the gradient model. The RLES results showed a clear improvement over those corresponding to the gradient model, comparing well with the fine direct numerical simulation. For comparison, we also present results corresponding to a classical subgrid-scale eddyviscosity model such as the standard Smagorinsky model.

Mixed Large-Eddy Simulation Model for Turbulent Flows across Tube Bundles Using Parallel Coupled Multiblock NS Solver
In this study, turbulent flow around a tube bundle in non-orthogonal grid is simulated using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique and parallelization of fully coupled Navier – Stokes (NS) equations. To model the small eddies, the Smagorinsky and a mixed model was used. This model represents the effect of dissipation and the grid-scale and subgrid-scale interactions. The fully coupled NS eq...

متن کاملNumerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES
Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...
